Darlene Dress

This is a step by step tutorial on how to make Darlene Square Neck Dress.

UK 6-16 / EU 34-44 / US 2-12/ AU 6-16

SLEEVES

Take a sleeve piece and overlock the shoulder edge

FOLD

Then fold the top edge  by 1.5cm and topstitch

TOPSTITCH

USE CHALK

Use chalk to mark a line for the elastic approximately 10cm from the edge

MEASURE ARM

Measure your arm and add extra 2 cm // mine UK size 8 is for example 28cm

SEW THE ELASTIC

Stretch the elastic as you sew

MEASURE ARMHOLE

Measure your armhole and add extra 2 cm// mine UK size 8 is for example 40cm

INSERT THE ELASTIC

Insert the elastic using a safety pin to the shoulders

SECURE STITCH

Make two secure stitched of the elastic on each side

FRENCH SEAM

Sew the sleeves sides using a french seam technique

DOUBLEFOLD

Finish of the sleeve’s hems by double folding the fabric and topstitching

TOPSTITCH

SKIRT

Moving on to the skirt, take front and back skirt panels

SKIRT SPLIT

Pin them together leaving 1cm seam allowance approximately 40cm down from the waist

DOUBLEFOLD

Then fold the seam allowance and topstitch

TOPSTITCH

FRENCH SEAM

Sew front and back panels together using a french seam technique

BODICE

Moving on to the top, take front and back bodice panels

FRENCH SEAM

Sew front and back panels together using a french seam technique

DOUBLE FOLD

Double fold the neckline first by 1cm and then by 1.5cm and leave a small gap to insert the elastic

TOPSTITCH

BODICE & SKIRT

Place bodice on the wrong side and skirt on the right side. Insert the skirt to the bodice and pin waistline together

3CM

Pin bodice to the skirt and sew 3cm away from the edge

STITCH

TRIM

Trim the seam allowance only form the bodice

DOUBLE FOLD

Double fold the skirt allowance and leave a small gap to insert the elastic

TOPSTITCH

HEM

Finish off the hem by double folding it and topstitching

TOPSTITCH

MEASURE OVERBUST

Measure your overbust with slightly stretched elastic and add 2cm/ mine UK size 8 is for example 85cm

INSERT THE ELASTIC

Insert the elastic using a safety pin to the neckline

MEASURE WAIST

Measure your waist with slightly stretched elastic and add 2cm/ mine UK size 8 is for example 70cm

INSERT THE ELASTIC

Insert the elastic using a safety pin to the waist

FINISH THE SEAMS

Sew the gaps to finish off the seams

ATTACH THE SLEEVES

Sew the sleeves to the dress

BACK TACK

Make a back tack stitch to sew the sleeve to the dress

VOILA!
