80’s Fashion Is Back

Another season has rolled in, and with it, another fashion moment to look back at. Have you ever wondered why we keep returning to past trends? One year it’s the ’60s, the next it’s the ’80s — and we rework them, reimagine them, make them modern. Maybe everything in fashion has been invented already, and now we’re just looping around, reinventing what once was. Possibly!

Well, the ’80s are back, and since it’s one of my favourite fashion eras, I couldn’t be happier.

There’s something about the bold shapes, strong silhouettes and confident attitude from that decade that feels both nostalgic and fresh. Think oversized blazers, shoulder pads, high-waisted trousers, power dresses — items designed to make you stand tall. But then mix them with today’s softer fabrics, cleaner lines and mindful styling, and the look becomes something you want to wear, not just something you recognise.

What I love most about this return is how we now pick and choose the best parts of the ’80s. You don’t have to go full retro to enjoy it — maybe just pair a structured blazer with jeans, or choose a velvet midi skirt and keep everything else simple. Add a pop of metallic, go for a bold earring, or tuck in your blouse and let the silhouette do the talking.

If you ask me, the best way to embrace this trend is to let your unique style shine. Use those ’80s ingredients — the attitude, the statement piece, the confident colour — but always keep it you. Fashion isn’t just about wearing something old again. It’s about feeling good while doing it.

Have you tried reviving the ’80s in your wardrobe yet? I’d love to hear what pieces you’ve fallen for this season.
