Snowboarding in Slovakia

TRAVEL DIARIES

CHOPOK, SLOVAKIA

“AN INVESTMENT IN TRAVEL IS AN INVESTMENT INTO YOURSELF”- MATTHEW KARSTEN

I recently went snowboarding in Slovakia and spent six incredible days there — four of which were filled with sliding down the slopes. It was my very first time snowboarding, and honestly, I think I did quite well for a beginner! It’s definitely harder than it looks, but I’m getting there.

Words can’t really describe how amazing those few days were, but I think the photos do a better job. It’s funny because we didn’t plan most of them — we just snapped pictures as we went along. Mother Nature truly outdid herself. Every corner of Slovakia was breathtaking, and with temperatures dropping to -14°C, the entire landscape turned white. Every single tree looked like it was dusted in snow — pure magic.

We stayed in the cutest wooden house tucked next to a forest with a river nearby. The accommodation ended up being one of my favorite parts of the trip. Every evening, I couldn’t wait to come back, light the fireplace, and relax with a glass of wine. The food in Slovakia was also amazing — many dishes reminded me of Polish cuisine, which made me feel right at home.

Our snowboarding destination was Chopok Mountain, which I highly recommend. It’s perfect for beginners (like me) but also has great slopes for pros. I loved how well-connected all the chairlifts were, making it super easy to move around the mountain.

This trip quickly became one of my favorites — and my first proper winter getaway. I think I’ve officially caught the snowboarding bug and can already see this becoming a yearly tradition.

If you’re wondering where to go skiing or snowboarding next, I can’t recommend Slovakia enough. It’s beautiful, affordable, and full of charm. I hope this post inspires you to give it a try. Until next time!
