There is something truly magical about autumn in Nice. The summer crowds slowly drift away, the beaches become quiet, and the golden light makes everything feel softer. It is the season when the city breathes again and you can wander without hurry, from the pastel streets of the Old Town to the sea that still sparkles in the late afternoon sun.
I always feel that autumn is the best time to fall in love with Nice all over again. The air smells of roasted chestnuts and espresso, and mornings begin with a little chill that makes you reach for your favourite jacket. The city feels calmer, more intimate, and somehow even more beautiful. Everything looks like it is covered in gold, and taking photos becomes so easy because every corner glows in the soft light.
What to do in Nice during autumn
Start your day with a slow walk along the Promenade des Anglais. The sea is still warm enough for a morning dip if you are brave, but even a quiet stroll with coffee in hand feels perfect. On weekends, the Cours Saleya market is full of autumn produce: figs, mushrooms, and sunflowers that seem to last forever in a vase.
A short tram ride away, the Cimiez gardens are covered in yellow leaves, and it is one of my favourite places for a quiet picnic or sketching new pattern ideas. If you love art, visit the Matisse Museum nearby. It is small, calm, and full of colour that somehow matches the season perfectly.

Autumn is also a wonderful time to explore small nearby villages such as Eze, Saint-Paul-de-Vence, or Villefranche-sur-Mer. The views are breathtaking, especially now, when the hills turn golden and the light is soft. While driving, you can even spot snow peaks in the distance. It actually snowed in Auron the other day, which made me even more excited for the ski season to begin.
Autumn mood at home
At home, I have been enjoying my favourite autumn activities: knitting, watching classic movies, playing chess, and drinking hot chocolate. My boyfriend and I went on a little search for our autumn scent for the apartment, and we found the most perfect candles with a ginger cookie scent at Zara Home. They really outdid themselves this year. The decor feels vintage, like an old Christmas movie, and it completely stole my heart. It feels classic, timeless, and so warm.
Nice is also getting ready for Christmas already. Christmas trees have started to appear all over town, some already glowing with lights. It feels early, but I secretly love it. This year, I really want to add a few Christmas decorations to my home too.
Why I love autumn here
Autumn in Nice is full of contrasts. Just a few weeks ago we were still wearing summer dresses, and now it is time for winter coats. The temperature dropped quickly, but I do not mind it. I have my sewing list ready and all the fabric I need for my autumn wardrobe.
Maybe that is why I love this season so much. It feels cosy, creative, and full of small joys. Nice in autumn is about balance: warm days, cool evenings, quiet streets, and endless inspiration. It is the kind of season that makes you want to slow down, create, and fall in love with simple things all over again.
